Welcome on the NsInfo page, a convenient WWW based DNS browser.

Interesting tool, performs a domain zone transfer in interactive mode. It displays complete easy to browse domain zone listing. After typing of domain name and to send the form across clicking of button "check" will become shown list of DNS servers holding selected domain You can quickly and efficiently obtain informations about DNS servers. Shown becomes IP address, his name canonical and state of work (accessibility) Close by is button "Go", after pressing which will become executed transfer of zone from select serwer.
Attention one should turn on this that at present much serwers has blocked possibility of zone trensfer. In such chance one should check all serwers, if every will return error - obtainment of zone is in such chance not possible.

Examples of usage:
81.148.in-addr.arpa - reverse of Warsaw, Poland (you can type reverse DNS),
test.nsinfo.one.pl - example of listing,

Modifications done by NsInfo are as follows:
  • records are sorted, so it's easier to find a particular host (records are sorted alphabetically by record type),
  • SOA record is shown independently this whether transfer of zone is denied or else not
  • NS records are shown independently this whether transfer of zone is denied or else not
  • close by records you can see helping pictures, when you click on it you can dig handled (sub)domain name or simply open WWW link in browser window,
  • you can quickly send a e-mail to the domain responsible person by one click on his e-mail addres.

How to read DNS information?

Each line of information (Resource Record) can be divided into four fields:
  • first field contains the name of the referenced object - that is host or domain name (or net number for reverse DNS).
  • second field contains TTL (Time To Live).
  • third field contains record type.
  • last field contains parameter value - usually also an address. For some records this part is divided into few fields.

List of record types:
  • SOA - this field contains many data concerning the domain. The first thing given is an address of the primary DNS for that domain. Then, an e-mail of the person responsible for the contents of the DNS. Remaining data is used by the other DNS for updating their information.
  • MX - for domain: host that should receive mail directed to domain, for host: host that should receive mail directed to given host. The numbers given before the name of the host that's receiving mail determine the priority (the smaller number the higher priority) - if mail cannot be delivered to the host with higher priority, it's delivered to the one with lower priority.
  • NS - Name Server - lists name server address for the domain given on the left side.
  • A - Address - assigns numeric address (on the right side) to symbolic address (on the left side).
  • AAAA - IPv6 Network address.
  • CNAME - alternative host name - the name on the left side may be used instead of the name on the right side.
  • HINFO - hardware information. HINFO records are used to acquire general information about a host. The main use is for protocols such as FTP that can use special procedures when talking between machines or operating systems of the same type.
  • TXT - text comment, used to hold descriptive text. The semantics of the text depends on the domain where it is found eg. institution owning the domain.
  • WKS - list of services performed by the host, record is used to describe the well known services supported by a particular protocol on a particular internet address.
  • PTR - PoinTeR - assigns symbolic address (on the right side) to numeric address (on the left side). Used in special domains to point to some other location in the domain space. These records are simple data, and don't imply any special processing similar to that performed by CNAME, which identifies aliases.
